Abstract
Introduction: Vocal cord papilloma, also known as laryngeal papilloma, is a benign wart-like growth on the vocal cord folds caused by the Human papilloma virus (HPV). This condition presents with symptoms such as hoarseness, stridor, dysphonia, and potential airway obstruction, depending on the size and location of the papillomas. Diagnosis of vocal cord papilloma involves laryngoscopy, a procedure used to visualise the growths on the vocal cords. Treatment options for vocal cord papilloma include surgical excision, laser therapy, and antiviral medications. Case Summary: A 55-year-old male attended the outpatient department of Dr. Anjali Chatterji Regional Research Institute for Homoeopathy, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, complaining of hoarseness of throat, along with burning and dryness for the past four months. The case was diagnosed as vocal cord papilloma confirmed through Fiber Optic Laryngoscopy (FOL). The case was treated with Causticum 1M, prescribed on the basis of individualisation. The patient showed a marked improvement in two months, with complete relief of burning in throat and hoarseness, and resolution of swelling. The MONARCH score was +9, indicating a probable association between the observed clinical improvement and the homoeopathic treatment. This case report suggests that individualised homoeopathic medicine could be useful in the treatment of vocal cord papilloma within a plausible time period. More case reports, case series, and well-designed studies are needed to establish the efficacy of Homoeopathy in the treatment of vocal cord papilloma.
