Anti-proliferative effects of homeopathic medicines on human kidney, colon and breast cancer cells
Journal reference: Homeopathy, Volume 102, Issue 4, October 2013, Pages 274-282.
Authors: Arora S, Aggarwal A, Singla P, Jyoti S, Tandon S
Summary: This study investigated the cytotoxic activity of selected homoeopathic medicines against cell lines deriving from tumors of particular organs namely Sarsaparilla on ACHN cells (human renal adenocarcinoma), Ruta graveolens on COLO-205 (human colorectal carcinoma) and Phytolacca decandra on MCF-7 (human breast carcinoma) in mother tincture and ultramolecular dilution (30C, 200C, 1M and 10M) preparation which showed highly significant effects in the respective cancer cell lines producing cytotoxicity and a decrease in cell proliferation by causing cell shrinkage, chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation.

Dielectric dispersion studies of some potentized homeopathic medicines reveal structured vehicle
Journal reference: Homeopathy, Volume 102, Issue 4, October 2013, Pages 262-267.
Authors: Mahata CR
Summary: Dielectric dispersion studies were conducted in a broad range with potencies below and above the Avogadro limit by taking 6c and 30c potencies of Graphites and Cuprum Metallicum in liquid form which were measured by an Anomalous Dielectric Dispersion Detector (A3D). Experiments were carried out in a frequency range of 100 kHz to 50 MHz. Shifting of resonance frequencies as a function of medicine and potency, with potencies below and above the Avogadro limit, was observed which suggested that the phenomenon might originate from oscillation of dipoles caused by electric field in variously structured and polarised water and that frequencies change with materials and potency.

Evidence in support of gene regulatory hypothesis: Gene expression profiling manifests homeopathy effect as more than placebo
Journal reference: International Journal of High Dilution Research, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 2013, Pages 162-167.
Authors: A Saha SK, Roy S, Khuda-Bukhsh AR
Summary: The ability of ultra-high diluted homeopathic remedies beyond Avogadro's limit, if any, in manifesting gene modulating effects in controlled in vitro experimental model was tested. Global microarray gene expression profiling of HeLa cells (an established epigenetic model of HPV18 positive cell line) was conducted and treated with two different potentized homeopathic remedies, namely, Condurango 30C and Hydrastis canadensis 30C (used in the treatment of cancer), as compared to that of placebo (succussed alcohol 30C) which revealed distinctly different expression patterns of over 100 genes as a consequence of treatment with both homeopathic remedies compared to placebo. Results indicated that action of the potentized drugs was "more than placebo" and these ultra-highly diluted drugs acted primarily through modulation of gene expression.

Homeopathic rhus toxicodendron treatment increased the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 in primary cultured mouse chondrocytes
Journal reference: Homeopathy Volume 102, Issue 4, October 2013, Pages 248-253.
Authors: Huh YH, Kim MJ, Yeo MG
Summary: The effects of 4X, 30X, 30c and 200c homeopathic dilutions of Rhus toxicodendron were examined in primary cultured mouse chondrocytes by assessing the expression of collagen type II, a marker protein of chondrocytes, and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) which is responsible for the biosynthesis of PGE2 and the regulation of the inflammatory response. Results suggested that Rhus tox induced chondrocyte dedifferentiation and inflammatory responses, such as COX-2 expression and PGE2 production, in primary cultured chondrocytes.

Homeopathic treatment of vitiligo: An open observational pilot study
Journal reference: International Journal of High Dilution Research, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 2013, Pages 168-177.
Authors: Ganguly S, Saha S, Koley M, Mondal R
Summary: An evaluation of homeopathic treatment was performed in individuals with vitiligo in a hospital outpatient clinic in West Bengal, India. 30 participants were recruited in a prospective open-label pilot study and treated with individualized homeopathic medicines for 6 months. Efficacy was assessed after 3 months and 6 months using Vitiligo Area Scoring Index (VASI) score, Vitiligo European Task Force (VETF) score, and Dermatological Life Quality Index (DLQI) score, which are validated outcome measures evaluating the area, intensity, spread of depigmentation of vitiligo lesions, and quality of life (QoL). A total of 27 participants completed the trial and after 6 months of treatment, it was found that individualized homeopathic treatment was associated with significant improvement of VASI, VETF and DLQI scores.

Condurango-glycoside - A fraction of gonolobus condurango induces DNA damage associated senescence and apoptosis via ros-dependent p53 signalling pathway in HeLa cells
Journal reference: Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, Volume 382, Issues 1-2, October 2013, Pages 173-183.
Authors: Bishayee K, Paul A, Ghosh S, Sikder S, Mukherjee A, Biswas R, Boujedaini N, Khuda-Bukhsh AR
Summary: The apoptosis-inducing ability of Condurango-glycoside-A (CGA) against cervix carcinoma cells (HeLa) was examined along with study of β-galactosidase activity, and DNA damage implicating thereby a possible role of DNA damage in inducing pre-mature cell senescence. Results suggest that CGA initiates ROS generation, promoting up-regulation of p53 expression, thus resulting in apoptosis and pre-mature senescence associated with DNA damage.

Additional benefits of homeopathy in the treatment of chronic periodontitis: A randomized clinical trial
Journal reference: Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, Volume 19, Issue 4, November 2013, Pages 246-250.
Authors: Mourão LC, Moutinho H, Canabarro A
Summary: Homeopathic medicine (HM) in the treatment of Chronic Periodontitis (CP) aims to restore the vital energy balance of the patient allowing the body to heal itself.
This single-blind randomized controlled clinical trial involved 60 patients including 40 with chronic periodontitis (CP group - CPG) and 20 without CP (Healthy Group - HG) in evaluating additional benefits of homeopathy as an adjunctive to conventional periodontal treatment (CPT) for 90 days. The findings of this 3-month follow-up study concluded that homeopathy, as an adjunctive to CPT, can provide additional benefits in the treatment of chronic periodontitis in addition to reduction in probing depth, in the level of visible plaque and in the bleeding on probing, in both CP groups (CPT-C and CPT-T) after 90 days.

Effectiveness of homeopathy in four autism spectrum disorder cases
Journal reference: Homoeopathic Links, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2013, Pages 256-261.
Authors: Gupta N, Saxena RK, Juneja R, Malhotra AK
Summary: The homeopathic therapeutic system has been found to be very effective in controlling the behavioural and other related abnormal conditions of ASD. This paper presents four cases of autistic children, having undergone regular homeopathic treatment and concludes that a homeopathic medicinal regimen does produce positive improvement and modification of autistic symptoms.

Homeopathic prescribing for chronic and acute periodontal conditions in 3 dental practices in the UK
Journal reference: Homeopathy, Volume 102, Issue 4, October 2013, Pages 242-247.
Authors: Farrer S, Baitson ES, Gedah L, Norman C, Darby P, Mathie RT
Summary: In this data collection study, 3 dentists systematically recorded data from 249 homeopathic appointments in 51 patients over a period of 18 months in a specially designed Excel spreadsheet. Though interpretation is difficult, positive findings obtained in the acute treatment setting suggest that this may be a promising area for research in periodontal homeopathy.
