About the author

The book is written by Dr. Girish Gupta, Chief Consultant, Gaurang Clinic and Centre for Homoeopathic Research, Aliganj, Lucknow.

About the book

The book is a compilation of accumulated clinical and research experience of the author accrued over the years in the treatment of gynaecological cases with homoeopathic medicines. It is a therapeutic compendium of the evidence-based outcome of diseases with the help of modern diagnostic tools and assessment of prognosis after homoeopathic treatment.

Outline

The book has six chapters and an appendix. The chapters outline the gynaecological diseases, namely uterine fibroid, ovarian cyst, breast fibroadenoma, polycystic ovarian syndrome, nabothian cyst and cervical polyp. Each chapter deals with published research papers on these gynaecological disorders with pathological changes followed by classically tailored model case reports. The article starts with abstract which clearly depicts the number of cases enrolled, resolved, regressed, static or worsened with the homoeopathic treatment. Source of each original article is given in detail with name of journal and volume number with month and year of publication at the very beginning of it. The same sequence is followed for all the chapters. Appendix elicits the awards, prizes received by the author and consolidated list of publications.

The book provides an insight by giving information quantitatively which is of great relevance in proving that homoeopathic medicines successfully annihilate several diseases which are surgical in nature.

Critique argument and themes for evaluation

The author has presented compilation of cases considering the history of disease, miasmatic analysis, follow-ups and use of ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool for evaluation of effect of homoeopathic treatment. The objectives and the outcome measures have been written in clear and precise manner to make the case reports more presentable in scientific plausible manner. Data have not been analysed statistically. The use of statistical tools in drawing inference would have been useful for undertaking research in future. The references if given as superscripts would make the book simpler and improve readability for any beginner. It will gain more attention from readers from therapeutic point of view if mentioned in future publications of the author, and HOM-CASE guidelines for writing case reports may be considered.

General evaluation

Systematic presentation of the book, research articles followed by model cases make the book reader friendly. The use of individualised and customised approach differentiates it from other published books. Readers are apprised of the outcomes of individual case studies. In all case reports, totality of symptoms have been given and repertorisation is used as a tool for selection of homoeopathic medicines. Discussion covers the mental make-up of patient. Hard effort has been made to make it evident that potentised medicines are working through pyschoneuro hormonal axis in successfully treating the pathological process occurring through similar axis.

Recommendation

The dissemination of clinical experiences is imperative to ensure that the findings can be translated into evidence-based research. The book is a quick hand reference work providing guidelines for further research on the role of Homoeopathy in gynaecology cases. It is a practical book covering gynaecological aspects from both homoeopathic and modern medicine perspectives.
